At the same time, there are numerous nuances to learn when practicing effective EFT with couples. In this webinar, we will explore the value of the pursuer's anger. The presenter will also share ways to lean into the anger with acceptance and understanding, rather than pulling away in frustration and fear. We will learn how to reframe anger a pursuer experiences in more hopeful ways (e.g., \"Increased energy\" that is fighting for their relationship, representing their hope). The presenter will discuss how reflection that the therapist understands their central dilemma (i.e., pushing for change does not work, and doing nothing is not an option) is central to successful work with pursuers in couples therapy. We will also explore how most pursuers have a very harsh inner critic and how to help them navigate this. Participants will leave this webinar with a better understanding of pursuers in couples therapy. This is an intermediate-level webinar that is appropriate for licensed mental health professionals and students in mental health graduate training programs.
